A: Rectal bleeding in pregnancy, seeing bright red blood on the toilet paper, on your stool or in the toilet, is common and usually not serious. It is most often caused by piles (haemorrhoids) or a small tear in the anus (anal fissure), both linked to the constipation that is so common in pregnancy. Treating the constipation and easing the piles usually solves it. That said, you should always mention rectal bleeding to your doctor to confirm the cause, and seek prompt care for heavy bleeding or black, tarry stools.... See more
