Finding the right sleep position isn’t that easy during the pregnancy period as you may have to give up on sleeping on your back after the 20th week of pregnancy.

The reason for this is that as you lie on your belly, the weight of the uterus can compress a major blood vessel, leading to disrupted blood flow to the baby while leaving you short of breath and dizzy.

Some of the tips you can use for having a safe sleep include the following-

Best sleeping positions during the Pregnancy period

One of the best ways to sleep during the pregnancy period is on your side. Some doctors may recommend the left side over the right, as the major blood vessels are located on the right side of your spine, so sleeping on the left side allows more blood to flow freely.

In case you need to work out on side sleeping, try tucking a few pillows to support the back. You can also keep pillows tucked under your knees to prevent any pressure on your lower back. A pregnancy pillow can really come in handy during this time. It is shaped in such a way that it perfectly fits the body and provides the much-needed support and comfort to the body.

Be sure to check whether you have a firm mattress or not, in order to avoid any aches and pains when you wake up.

And in case you wake up on your back in the morning or at night, don’t panic. By the time your vein gets compressed, you’ll get so uncomfortable lying down on your back that you’ll automatically switch over even if you’re in deep sleep!

    Train yourself

Sleeping or adopting to a new position might take some time, so you need to train yourself. Use pillows to your aid in order to get a comfortable sleeping position. When you sleep on your side, put the pregnancy pillow and adjust your position so that you can lean forward and backwards.

The right sleeping position will help ensure that your baby is safe and free from any potential risks caused due to a particular sleeping posture.
