Your Baby's Development in Week 13
  • Your baby just loves to be touched. In fact, she thrives on closeness, and it’s important for her growth and development.
  • In particular, skin-to-skin contact helps you and your baby bond. It comforts her when she's upset and soothes her when she's irritable, and it can be a lovely experience for you, too!
  • You can also stimulate your baby's sense of touch by letting her explore different materials. You could try soft, textured fabrics such as fake fur, felt and towelling.

Watch video on - Diet for breastfeeding mothers

  • If you’re spending hours breastfeeding or bottle-feeding your baby, it's easy to forget to eat well yourself.
  • However busy or tired you are, try to aim for nutritious foods when you can. This will help to give you the energy you need to care for your baby.
  • It's understandable if you want to lose weight quickly, but it's important not to go on a strict diet if you're breastfeeding. Instead, just go for balanced meals, three times a day.
  • In between meals, try to choose healthy snacks, such as fruit, cereal bars, yoghurts, rice cakes and raw vegetables. And be sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

What to Expect in Week 13
  • Bear in mind that your baby probably loves to put things in her mouth, so choose your materials carefully.
  • Don't leave her alone with anything that could come apart if she chews on it.
  • If your little one sucks on her fists, seems to want extra milk, or wakes hungry in the night, you may be wondering whether her usual milk is enough for her.
  • But none of these are signs that your baby's ready for solid food, and experts recommend that you wait until she's about six months old.

Activity in Week 13

Busy Fingers: Baby is just discovering her body, especially her hands. She should be spending time looking at and playing with her fingers and hands. She also will be starting to play with hands and fingers in the center of her body. Putting her hands or toys in her mouth is typical at this age. Be sure toys are age appropriate and big enough to not cause choking. Helps baby learn how to use hands and eyes together when exploring their surroundings.
